Looking Through The Key Hole
Project Description
Looking Through The Key Hole
Cast Iron
12 large cast iron plaques illustrating the heritage of the town
40 smaller plaques which guide the viewer around the town on either a long loop or shorter walk.
Willenhall Heritage Trail links the town centre to Willenhall Memorial Park and Fibbersley Nature Reserve. The walk is a celebration of Willenhall’s rich industrial heritage, famous people and places – a walk through time.
We wanted to not only celebrate the world famous Lock and Key industries, but dig deeper into its past and rejoice in the town’s history right back to its Anglo Saxon origins.
The heritage trail consists of a number of large plaques which you will find set into the pavement. There are also a number of smaller ‘key’ plaques along the way in pavements on buildings.
Planet Art worked alongside the regeneration team at Walsall Council, friends of the parks, Clean and Green, Highways England, 4 local schools, the Lock Museum, Walsall History Group, Willenhall Historical Society and the Black Country Living Museum.
A web site and downloadable map accompany the trail:
